STEM success

Year 3 and 4 students had a fun time of learning in Term 1 and 2 when they participated in a range of engaging activities that focussed on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities. The activities were linked to the Term 1 and 2 science units. Both classes learnt how to program Micro:Bits to measure light, heat and soil moisture. Year 4 designed and built ‘An Automated Watering System’ programmed with Micro:Bits, then went on to design and create a tool or toy that is useful at school or at home. The Year 3 class embarked on a project to build a wind-powered generator, which linked to their learning on sustainable energy production.

The STEM projects were part of the school’s involvement in the Sydney University STEM Academy.  Mrs Spenceley, Mr Steel and Mrs Grover attended a series of workshops to support the students' learning at school.
